Community Service

Dining Services employees continually give back to their community by participating in activities both on and off campus.

4th Annual Division of Student Affairs Day of Service
Many of our employees participated in the 4th annual day of service on October 15, 2005. Divisional staff members had the opportunity to participate in several service activities:
- Made and packed over 1,000 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and lunches for D.C. Central Kitchens
- Provided service at the Ronald McDonald House
- Prepared meals at D.C. Central Kitchen
- Packed food supplies at the SHARE warehouse
- Made posters, reading games, booklets in The Art & Learning Center for local elementary schools
- Cleaned up the Paint Branch Creek
- Donated over 1,000 school supplies to local public schools

The Department of Dining Services wishes to thank the following sponsors for donating the food and packing supplies for lunches for D.C. Central Kitchen:
General Mills, US Foodservice, Tysons, Precise Sales, Campbell's, Poland Springs, Bullseye, and H&S Bakery.

Teddy Bear Drive
This annual holiday bear drive supports the Bonnie Johns Children's Fund. These bears are collected as toys of comfort for vulnerable children. New bears can be dropped off at room 1144 in the South Campus Dining Hall. Last year, over 1200 bears were collected on campus. These bears are given to homeless shelters, crisis centers, and social service organizations. For more information, call 301-314-8054.

D.C. Central Kitchen
Throughout the school year, Dining Services donates leftover and surplus food items to D.C. Central Kitchen. D.C. Central Kitchen distributes more than 4,000 meals per day to over 100 agencies providing services to the men, women, and children in need in Metropolitan Washington.
